The shift to renewable energy has emerged as a key approach to carbon neutrality and reducing the negative effects of climate change. This systematic review aims to review the literature on renewable energy integration for decarbonization efforts in the last five years (2021-2026). The review centers on renewable energy technologies, energy transition pathways, policy frameworks, technological innovation and sectoral strategies to reduce GHGs emissions and promote sustainable development. The studies reviewed have repeatedly shown that the combination of renewable energy and energy efficiency measures, smart energy systems, supportive policies and technological innovation has a significant effect on speeding up the transition towards carbon neutrality. But there are still obstacles including financing shortfalls, policy uncertainties, intermittent renewable energy supply, etc. that prevent the widespread deployment. The results indicate that synergies between policy measures, investments in clean technologies and collaboration across sectors are important for strengthening climate resilience and for the long-term sustainability objectives.
