Read moreAbstract The rhizosphere is defined as the soil microenvironment that is adjacent to the plant root system. Increasing climatic instability, including drought, soil salinity, and temperature extremes, is altering rhizosphere processes and challenging plant adaptation(Hakim et al., 2021). Here we use the term rhizosphere rewiring to capture two related phenomena: the natural reorganisation of plant-associated microbiomes under stress, and the deliberate manipulation of these interactions to improve crop resilience.
