The aim of the study is to examine the impact of project manager competence on project outcome in Nigeria. The study collected qualitative data from twenty (20) experts in the Nigeria construction industry using open-ended survey method of data collection. The study revealed that project manager competence significantly impacts project outcomes. There are key competencies that every project manager in the Nigerian construction industry should possess, these include project planning and execution, risk management, technical expertise like budget preparation, cost estimation, contract negotiation, contract management. Training and development were also found to moderate the relationship between project manager competence and project outcomes through certification and formal training programmes, mentorship and coaching and experiential learning. External factors such as regulatory, economic, and market dynamics were also found to have significant impact on both the competence of project managers and project outcome
